Why would you need mentoring?

Our last memo provoked many questions about mentoring and why we think it’s important for people and organisations. Look around: very often, you find mentoring for leadership, personal development or for speaking. What you don’t  find  is mentoring for managing your business processes. The result of this gap: lower performance and more frustration within organisations.  Read more about our suggestion how to tackle this issue.

So, what to expect from a good mentoring? We think these three characteristics – published at the Harvard Business Review – are really important.

Good mentoring...

  • … tells you things you may not want to hear but leaves you feeling you have been heard
  • … interacts with you in a way that makes you want to become better
  • … makes you feel secure enough to take risks and seize opportunities
